About
This poem mirrors my fight with depression spanning decades at this point. I wrote the first part during a very difficult time over a decade ago and the events reflect actual events and feelings from that time. The closing part (the fighting back) was added much more recently. I’m still here fighting and refuse to give despite those muddy waters that continue to turn inside of me.
I chose the imagery in the opening line of this song to be the cover for the entire ‘mercy of gravity’ album. That image is not a metaphor but is a stylised snapshot of a literal moment. It was in Northampton where I’d stumbled onto the ‘Racecourse’ alone in the middle of night in a deep cloud of despair and just laid there for a time.
